Our Story
Jubilee is a church plant in partnership with two sending churches; the Bridge Church, St Ives, and City Church, Cambridge. We have a launch team of 28 people including 12 children. Leading the plant are two couples; Russell and Rebecca Burgess and Ali and Abi Jones. The Burgesses have recently moved to Ely along with another family from The Bridge Church. The Joneses, who have lived in Ely for 9 years, have led various Ely-based City Church small groups over the years.
Launched in Sept 2020
Before COVID-19 Jubilee was meeting once a month on a Sunday at a local sport and social club called The Beet Club. In September 2020 we officially launched the plant and now we meet weekly online via Facebook Live.
First Baptism
We have already had our first baptism in a paddling pool in the Burgesses’ front garden and are praying for many more.
How to pray
As part of our launch we delivered 5,000 leaflets to homes across Ely. Please pray that people will respond to the invitation to join one of our services.
We have been given a number of prophetic words in the lead-up to our launch which we would love you to pray for us:
That we would be good news to the people of Ely as they come out of lockdown.
Ely Cathedral is known as the ‘Ship of the Fens’; we will be known as an ‘Ark of the Fens’ - a place of refuge and salvation.
A picture of ‘low hanging fruit’. We are praying that the Holy Spirit connects us with those who are ‘ripe’ for the gospel.
We are using the Alpha course as a way to introduce people to Jesus. We are praying that many people will choose to join us, come to faith in God and be baptised.
