Emergency Appeal: Kenya

Partnering with dear friends Edward & Fridah Buria to provide relief to brothers and sisters in Kenya facing what some are calling the worst drought in 40 years.

Meeting great need

Partner with us to provide…

Immediate relief

It costs up to £8/€10 per week to feed one family. Your giving will go towards providing families with ongoing emergency food supplies, which includes:

  • Maize meal for adults

  • Unimix for children (a kind of porridge flour enriched with vitamins and minerals)

  • Bottled water where the need arises

Long-term solutions

As well as providing essential emergency relief we will continue to invest in longer-term water projects, education [1] and empowerment programs [2].

  1. The Community Empowerment Project (CEP) helps children stay in school by providing essential school fees, uniforms and equipment.

  2. £25,000 of this seed fund will be invested in helping business regeneration in areas that have been devastated by Covid, drought and other disasters.

A call to all believers

As followers of Jesus, we are called to “relieve the pressing needs of others” (Titus 3:14) and over many years we have had the privilege of partnering with Edward and Fridah Buria to do so. Once again, we ask you to consider standing with them in this moment of need.

Edward recently wrote to us with the following:

“We have been facing massive challenges the last few years occasioned by a prolonged drought that has worsened this year. We are having several millions in Kenya who are facing severe famine and have to be kept alive through regular relief supplies. Many of our churches in these drought prone areas have been affected so badly. We have been getting some concerning news of many of our members leaving their homes in search of food.”

Edward and his teams are currently providing relief supplies to around 1000 families in some of the worst-hit areas in Turkana, Samburu, Kwale, Meru North, Lower Eastern in Ukambani, Tharaka and in the Maasai areas. The aim is to provide this much needed relief until March 2023, when they hope to harvest the crops planted in October/November this year.

It has been estimated that in Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia, a human life is lost every 48 seconds due to lack of food. The region is facing a catastrophic hunger crisis – with between 15 and 20 million people suffering from hunger.
